Turning Personal Experience Into Community Action
Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Charline Vuta and Tanaka Marowa founded The Charltan School Trust (now Charltan) under UNICEF Zimbabwe’s ‘Generation Unlimited,’ after finishing as winners of the 2018 Generation Unlimited Challenge. Motivated by the personal experiences of their two sisters both of whom suffered abuse, the two co-founded the Charltan School for prematurely married young women. First established in Epworth in partnership with Ladder of Hope, Charltan has educated approximately 200 adolescent mothers and mainly works in three communities: Epworth, Hopely, and Kadoma. The target population is pregnant adolescents and teen mothers aged 13-19.
